I just finished a great book about this: Into the Minds of Babes: How Screen Time Affects Children from Birth to Age Five (bulky title)

In it she delves into research on just how educational kids' shows are. There is a lot of educational value to some of the shows; which shows in particular depended on what you were looking for - learning social skills, learning phonics, etc.

Can't say I've seen the Motrin Moms commercial, but seems to me no body accused Native Americans, West Africans, ancient Chinese or other baby wearing groups of being fashionistas or pseudomoms. Even in this day of hypersensitivity and political over-correctness, seems to me people need to get a life. But I do hate those Brooke Shields "having a baby to justify a Volkswagen minivan" commercials. Not any slight on motherhood or pregnancy, just boring, humorless commercials from a company that usually has better advertising.

I don't understand the uproar over the ad. The sling TOTALLY hurts my back, which is why I don't use it. My daughter doesn't really like the carrying thing either.

But, if I'd known it was in FASHION, I would have used it a lot more.

That Motrin ad is weird, but not really offensive. And for anyone looking for a comfortable baby carrier, I seriously suggest Ergo Baby Carriers. It's amazing how comfortable I am after hauling my little chub around for hours.

I'm a fan of pears too. Not sure what the Motrin ad is since we skip all ads when watching tv and we live in the UK. And I like Super Why and Word World...very educational. Although my daughter is a big fan of Diego. She can do a really great impression of a hump back whale and knows more facts about animals than I do.

We like Super Why at our house also. Word World is another great one. Pretty much anything on PBS is ok in my book. Since we don't have Nickelodeon or Disney, they aren't an option.
When we lived in a little space, I let a lot more TV be on than I do now. IT's ok :)

I was recently introduced to the bean (how do you do, bean?) via my cousin's blog, but didn't know it was really referred to as, "the bean." I thought she just called it that for lack of knowing what it is really called. Just learned my one new thing for the day. Now I can go back to bed.

I am more disappointed in women who over-voice their over-vigilant opinions than I am in any ad Motrin could possibly conceive. I mean, I have dramatic and passionate opinions over dumb things (as evidenced on my blog), but I also don't have a huge following. As for the Motrin ad, I agree that you need Motrin after carrying a baby around in a sling/carrier. But I don't think of my babies as fashion accessories but I know plenty of people who do.

I really don't understand all the buzz that has been created due to the Motrin Moms commercial. I have a 6 month old and I carry her in a sling quite a bit, but boy, does my back hurt when I do. From what I got, they weren't saying we don't like to carry our babies. They were saying that we like it, but it just causes pain. I carried Emily around DC for 3 days in a swing and I couldn't move for a week. Bring on the Motrin!

Maybe the pain has something to do with the fact that my six month old is the size of the average 10 month old. I'm not joking.
