I think I'm growing dreads.
While my bout with the "Suck it" flu is graciously subsiding, Mr. Dub's went into overdrive Saturday. I haven't put on makeup in a few days. Also, I haven't brushed my hair, hence the clumped pieces that could be worked into dreads by neglect or drizzling car oil. (Is that how you do it? Spill your secrets, Lisa Bonet!)
Dreads are actually a good look for me. As much as I flatter myself to be someone who looks decently cute/fashionable/presentable at any weight, or with any hair color or jean rise, I am really good at looking frumpy. I have that "my husband loves me, so who cares?" look down pat.
In fact, in college, when I was feeling particularly blah, I would wear a vintage ring that could pass as an engagement ring on my ring finger. (Three rings in one sentence? I boweth.) That way if someone was thinking, "That girl's outfit is so awkward," they would look at my ring and think, "Well, shoot, she's cute enough to be engaged at 19." Because all 19-year-old brides are super hot. Just ask them.
But I don't just want this blog to be a place where I rant about my hard life and health woes. Although, let me be clear, I have a hard life and some health woes. However, there are many other things going on in my life. Like, the fact that we don't have a Christmas tree yet, and how I'm just not feeling the seasonal love this year. Yes, I drank some eggnog; didn't help. I just kept think, "Oh, egg and nog. That means there are eggs in this." It was a real epiphany and not a good one.
Also, I am going to Arizona for Christmas. And while it used to tick me off when people would say it doesn't feel like Christmas in Arizona because there is no snow or cold weather and a dominant Jewish population, I have to say I hope it doesn't this year. Because I'd like to go and pretend it's summer. And go swimming. And walk around in a sundress. But - newsflash - it's actually not that hot in Arizona in the winter. It's actually warmer in California. I know.
Finally, is it so wrong that I love Yo Gabba Gabba? I just feel like there are a lot of haters out there, and I don't get it. Cool graphics, indie music and kitschy characters? What don't you like?
Oh, and about my recent lack of photos - it's a privacy thing. (It's not. I just takes a lot of energy to upload those bad boys. And Miss Dub is so photoungenic these days.)

Where I tell the truth about eggnog

If I want snow I'll watch White Christmas.
And for a non-eggy egg nog fix, try Silk Nog. It's actually really yummy (and healthier).
Que se sientan mejor prontito!
You know that we don't have a tree yet and just pray that we will before you get here on Christmas night. We do have lights on the outside of the house though which is SO Arizona.
If you and those other dubs got on a plane right now ... dreads or no dreads ... I would not even pretend I didn't know you by holding up a sign.
And ... truth be told ... I am not that fond of eggnog either. I'd like to change that traditional to drinking whipping cream straight ... which I do really like.
Anything that makes you throw up automatically gives you a pass on trying to look hot! Or anything close to it. I wore my mom's fake engagement ring when I worked at McDonalds in college to avoid cheesy pick up lines. I wasn't wearing it the day TD came through and gave me a really cheesy line.
I am feeling kind of shafted down here in Texas. I actually had to turn on the car defroster yesterday. Ugh!
Yo Gabba Gabba freaks me out only because I think it is what a doobie smoking college kid would think of as a kids show when he has the munchies and is wolfing down an Arby's 5 for 5 deal. Eggnog is revolting and when you come to the Az it will only be hot cocoa and homemade marshmellows for you!
Yeah, it was 58 degrees here yesterday.. Brr.rr... my kids are STILL complaining that there is no snow. (Since we just moved to the AZ from the WA) AND, I was relieved to find that someone else has not donned a tree. I finally got out two Christmas boxes last night... that is 'bout as far as I got. Oh well...
If the freezing rain forecast for ChiTown the next two days and 5-10 straight days of rain or snow forecast for the period before you fly out here doesn't make you think a snow-less Christmas is okay, just remember it really occurred in Spring in an arid, Mediterranean climate, so the snow is a European artifact anyway. So what if Santa has to come in a dune buggy pulled by Javelina and is wearing shorts, sandals, and a baseball cap.
Plus, I bet that visting the Temple lights any night will leave you plenty cold enough for seasonal thoughts and desires for hot chocolate and a fire.
Still the combination of family sickness, thoughts of maybe having to move immediately, and knowing you're traveling for the holidays makes it difficult to get in the mood to decorate. When Steph said that even in her most Christmassy mood she can't get up for getting a tree, her Mom suggested a poinsettia--I thought that was both funny and wise.
yeah, i am pretty hot.
I was feeling pretty sorry for you until brookegfunk mentioned her homemade marshmallows, and now that is ALL I can think about. They are the best. There is a chi-chi cafe/bakery by my house that sells homemade marshmallows for $3 a pop, and they're nothing compared to brooke's.
But yeah, feel better soon. I'm 33 years old and have never put up a tree, so there.
Haha. I guess it depends on what area of CA you're talking about it. Right now, AZ is hotter than most of CA. I know, crazy.
I laughed at your comment on Yo Gabba Gabba. The creator of that served a mission with my husband in Japan. He was drawing those exact characters in Japanese class at the MTC (17 years ago!!!!) Funny, huh?
I love you even more knowing that you have love for Yo Gabba. It is superbly twisted and delightful.
My kids love yo gabba gabba so you are in good company. Glad you are feeling a little better.
Thanks for keeping it real. I haven't brushed my teeth or hair today, so it's nice to know I'm in good company.
We have our tree up,so you can come right on over when you get here!!!!!!! (I know we're not that high on the list, but I know we're on the list! yeah)
Yo Gabba Gabba is only slightly less disturbing than BouBah. I would much rather watch a few episodes of The Upsidedown Show.
And amen to summer in winter!
I love Yo Gabba Gabba, but I'm highly biased. I'm friends with one of the creators. Yeah, that one that served with your friends husband in Japan. Small world huh?
Maybe I'll see you in Az. we'll be out for a visit too.
I just have to say I don't know you but I love reading your blog. I can't even remember how I found you but I am glad I did.
I LOVE Yo Gabba Gabba! I think because it reminds me of one of my friends I grew up with. I probably get more excited to see it than my kids. I think I love it even more after chellie's comment!
I am also not done decorating! I guess I'm just so busy right now that I can't even finish what I started. My daughter loves Yo Gabba Gabba and she was the one who introduced me to the show. It's funny how she can make me watch it and still say that I don't have time to decorate. Good luck!
