1. Go here. Remember how I said that I wasn't cool enough to take gorgeous pictures of my breakfast on Monday? Well, apparently my bro-in-law is. He also took a sweet picture of "The Bean." You don't know what The Bean is? Let's just say you probably don't take cool pictures of your food either.
2. TV update: Miss Dub responded with a unparalleled level of obedience to my TV restrictions the very day I posted about it. She now watches three shows - after waking, before nap, before bedtime. You can say that's too much TV, but until she has any siblings, lives in a better climate and abides in a space larger than 900 square feet, that's my bad ear, and I can't hear you. I am wondering, however, what you think are the most educational shows on TV. She's in a Diego phase - like, calls me Alicia and counts exclusively in Spanish - but I'm more partial to "Super Why" for its phonetic power. What about you?
3. Did you hear about the Motrin Moms? A lot of hype or justified drama? I'd wait for Hot Topic Tuesday, but then I'd have to rename it Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, We've-Already-Talked-about-This Tuesday, and that's a really long acronym. For the record, I try to limit my protests to ads that are more blatantly offensive, like a dog shooting a grandma. Was is the best ad campaign? No. Was it offensive? For me, not so much, because my back does hurt from lugging Miss Dub's 35 pounds around when she's feeling lazy.
4. The SFG is coming tomorrow. Just in time for Christmas!
5. I like pears.

Is it random if I put it in a list?

I like pears, too! That Free People jacket is A-MA-ZING. I think it's going on the holiday list. I'm not sure what to make of the Motrin ad. I think it's just an ad, and probably not something I'll get all worked up about.
I really don't understand all the buzz that has been created due to the Motrin Moms commercial. I have a 6 month old and I carry her in a sling quite a bit, but boy, does my back hurt when I do. From what I got, they weren't saying we don't like to carry our babies. They were saying that we like it, but it just causes pain. I carried Emily around DC for 3 days in a swing and I couldn't move for a week. Bring on the Motrin!
Maybe the pain has something to do with the fact that my six month old is the size of the average 10 month old. I'm not joking.
I want the SFG to visit me tomorrow. You are very lucky!
As for the Motrin ad, I agree that you need Motrin after carrying a baby around in a sling/carrier. But I don't think of my babies as fashion accessories but I know plenty of people who do.
I was recently introduced to the bean (how do you do, bean?) via my cousin's blog, but didn't know it was really referred to as, "the bean." I thought she just called it that for lack of knowing what it is really called. Just learned my one new thing for the day. Now I can go back to bed.
I am more disappointed in women who over-voice their over-vigilant opinions than I am in any ad Motrin could possibly conceive. I mean, I have dramatic and passionate opinions over dumb things (as evidenced on my blog), but I also don't have a huge following. Or maybe I just don't have time to be offended because I'm too busy lugging my children around.
My husband showed me the ad, and I don't see what all the fuss was about, it's just an ad. So what. There are a lot more offensives ads than that.
I didn't like the sling I had, but I love the wrap I'm using now.
Huh. I don't get the Motrin Moms uproar. The ad was kind of stupid and overly wordy, but offensive? Not really.
Love the photo of Miss Dub inhaling her breakfast.
We like Super Why at our house also. Word World is another great one. Pretty much anything on PBS is ok in my book. Since we don't have Nickelodeon or Disney, they aren't an option.
When we lived in a little space, I let a lot more TV be on than I do now. IT's ok :)
I'm a fan of pears too. Not sure what the Motrin ad is since we skip all ads when watching tv and we live in the UK. And I like Super Why and Word World...very educational. Although my daughter is a big fan of Diego. She can do a really great impression of a hump back whale and knows more facts about animals than I do.
That Motrin ad is weird, but not really offensive. And for anyone looking for a comfortable baby carrier, I seriously suggest Ergo Baby Carriers. It's amazing how comfortable I am after hauling my little chub around for hours.
oh, i am in such a tizzy over the motrin ad. i mean, really?! - children as a fashion accessory (hello hollywood!), well i've never heard of something so absurd! they should be ashamed of themselves.
haha. oh, i slay me (thanks, miss mary mack for the word slay... i love it!).
I don't understand the uproar over the ad. The sling TOTALLY hurts my back, which is why I don't use it. My daughter doesn't really like the carrying thing either.
But, if I'd known it was in FASHION, I would have used it a lot more.
Lists bring order to all and banish randomness--even if in random order rather than prioritized.
Gravy Eggs Benedict--now we're talking--trash that Blue State, effeminate Hollandaise and bring on the gravy.
Congrats on the structured TV. Now she can love Papa even more when he surreptitiously lets her watch 21 Jump Street and Mod Squad rerun marathons.
Can't say I've seen the Motrin Moms commercial, but seems to me no body accused Native Americans, West Africans, ancient Chinese or other baby wearing groups of being fashionistas or pseudomoms. Even in this day of hypersensitivity and political over-correctness, seems to me people need to get a life. But I do hate those Brooke Shields "having a baby to justify a Volkswagen minivan" commercials. Not any slight on motherhood or pregnancy, just boring, humorless commercials from a company that usually has better advertising.
Oh, I like pears, too.
In our house the Thomas the Train DVD's rule supreme. But I also swear by the Leapfrog DVD's for early reading and math. I'm so so on "Super Why" but I do like "Word World" and old DVD's of Blues Clues (with Steve Burns)
My son has learned a lot from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, believe it or not. They do a lot of counting, colors, etc. He also loves Little Einsteins, which is educational about music and animals.
Re. television...
I just finished a great book about this: Into the Minds of Babes: How Screen Time Affects Children from Birth to Age Five (bulky title)
In it she delves into research on just how educational kids' shows are. There is a lot of educational value to some of the shows; which shows in particular depended on what you were looking for - learning social skills, learning phonics, etc.
