Banana bread french toast

It is real, my friends, and available at our favorite brunch spot. Everything they have is good. So good that my bro-in-law is insisting we go there right now and get some before he catches his morning flight back to Japan.

I'm going to order the apple cinnamon oatmeal. Just kidding, if you ordered that I wouldn't be your friend. Just kidding, I would be your friend, but I would think in my mind, "Uh, live a little. You can eat oatmeal at home." Just kidding, I would probably say something out loud like, "Wow, you're adventurous." But I'd be sarcastic, and if you didn't get it, I wouldn't be your friend. Just kidding.

I think I'm going to order the Fresca omelet today, or maybe the Southern Benedict. (Please don't read the description, or you might not want to be my friend any more, because you'll know how clogged my arteries are, and you won't want to get into a doomed relationship.)

What would you order?

If I was a fancy blogger - er, flogger? - I would take a picture of it and it would look so cute, with just the right amount of my floral skirt and mustard yellow shoes peeking through. But my food might get cold, plus I'll probably go in too-tight lounge pants with a greasy ponytail. And no one wants to look at that when discussing food. I know, Mr. Dub tells me all the time. Just kidding, he doesn't, but he probably thinks it. Just kidding, I can't read his mind all the time, just most of it.

p.s. What's your favorite breakfast food? Mine is Eggs Benedict. I bought it a friendship charm, I love it so much.

p.p.s. I actually wrote the "just kidding" riff without realizing I stole it from here. Is it plagiarism when its unintentional?

I had the absolute best breakfast ever at the Marriott in downtown New Orleans (pre-Katrina) It was pain perdu, which basically meant big slices of fried bread with real maple syrup and pecan butter. Yum. I think we can be doomed together because there wasn't any thing nutritionally redeeming about it, but it was good.

a) We need to go back there VERY soon.

b) We took the in-laws two weeks ago, and they are already insisting that we take them back next time they are up.

c) I ordered the banana bread french toast and then ate off of everyone's plate, too!

I totally had Judy Grimes in my head while reading this post. Did you see the Beyonce/Justin Timberlake skit this weekend? I haven't laughed that hard at a non-political SNL skit for a long time.

Are you going to Egg Harbor? That is my favorite place--I love everything I've ever had there, but I do enjoy a good eggs benedict. Wildberry has a good Florentine eggs benedict--you think you're healthy because they add some spinach!

I love the just kidding skits and I'd love to try the strawberry cheesecake stuffed french toast. I swear breakfast is the best meal. When else can you pass off desert (for all intents and purposes) as a legitimate choice?

i ate there and loved every single sugar coma inducing bite.

I also love me some eggs benedict, but in moderation (like, twice a year is fine). Unlike all of the other really bad stuff that I like in excess. I'm not sure why.

There is an old school sorta fancy restaurant in Los Angeles that I sometimes eat at for work meetings and that serves breakfast all day, including this little to-die-for number:

CREOLE BENEDICT
Poached eggs atop crab cakes and sauteed mushrooms nestled on toasted English muffin halves crowned with Creole style hollandaise sauce.

The sodium hangover lasts for about three days, but it's worth it. It's also worth the $30-ish price tag, especially if your boss is paying.

Eggs benedict was always what I would order for room service on fancy vacations growing up. When Hubs & I were newlyweds we would make our own version at home using cheap sandwich ham slices and bread instead of enlish muffins; but real, homemade, delicious hollandaise sauce... and it was *almost* as good!

I love the just kidding theme. Great entertaining reading!

The Fresca sounds fabulous! I think the skillets sound good too. I used to worked the breakfast shift at a hotel restaurant - I had way too many waffles that summer. But I still love them. I love breakfast anytime of the day.

I want to eat kristin wiig for breakfast! just kidding! she makes me laugh so hard! judy was funny, but penelope is my favorite.
For breakfast? I like me some good old fashioned buttermilk pancakes with butter and real maple syrup. If you're ever on the CA central coast, try the cowgirl cafe in Nipomo for breakfast. Nothin fancy, just huge portions and really good!

Oh my gosh--you are hilarious. I somehow got to your sight--I forget how (design *sponge???) and you crack me up every time you write. Thanks for the gift of laughter during my day.

My favorite? Potatoes and eggs...yumm! The only way potatoes are worth eating. (seasoned hash browns with over easy eggs)

Eggs Benedict makes me nauseas. Just kidding. No, I'm not.

Just reading "banana bread french toast" makes my mouth water.

:o)

So how come we got Walker Brothers instead of Wildberry when we visited? Just kidding.

My favorite breakfast is something really sweet and gooey with nothing like bacon or hash browns or biscuits and gravy hanging around. Just kidding.

Biscuits and gravy, good fresh shredded hash browns, McDonalds bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit (or McGriddle), or a really good machaca and egg and potato burrito. Not kidding.

Kristen Wiig is way funnier than you. Just kidding.

We really need to come out there and try this place. Really soon. I'm now jonesing hard core for pancakes...

My fav was always french toast (I think I would faint straight away for banana bread french toast), only 3 or 4 years ago I suddenly became unable to digest eggs!! Cruel cruel twist of fate. Another favorite being eggs benny... and sunny side up eggs where I salt and pepper them and soak my buttery bread in it...

So now I'm resolved to buttermilk pancakes with butter and maple syrup. Or belgian waffles with real strawberries... and monstrous cinnamon buns with buttery frosting. Does it seem like I like butter? And, you know, food categorically?
